This course will explore:

• How we provide an environment for learning ‘the environment cycle’.

• What teaching in the early years means and how we can do this effectively.

• How to recognise that learning has taken place and develop and support learning.

EXPLORING ATTACHMENT AND SETTLING BABIES

This course will explore attachment theory related to

settling babies and the significance of separation/stranger

anxiety, which has been exacerbated by lockdown. The

course will look at how to best support the babies and their

parents. An essential course for all baby room practitioners.

WRITING QUALITY OBSERVATIONS

This course will explore:

• What is a quality observation

• Why we observe and what we can learn from observations

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PLAY

Play is how children make sense of their world. The explore, imagine, create, dream, invent, construct, deconstruct,

     problem solve and learn and develop. This course will explore:

• What do we mean by purposeful play and the different types of play.

• Reflect on key theorist of play.

• Consider how the adult can most effectively facilitate and support play.

• Understanding what we can learn about children from their play.

IS IT ME? HOW YOUR WORDS AND ACTIONS IMPACT ON CHILDREN’S BEHAVIOUR

This course will explore:

• What is behaviour?

• The relevance and significance of development in relation to behaviour expectations.

• Reflecting on the practitioner role influencing behaviour.

• Facilitating positive behaviour.

EXPLORING SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

This course will explore:

• The role of the key person supporting this area of development.

• Key theories which help understanding and influence practice.

• The significance of self esteem.

REVISED DEVELOPMENT MATTERS

This session will

• guide you through the key changes to development matters

• support you in reflecting on what it means in practical terms

• consider how leaders and managers in settings can support their teams to understand

(This course is aimed at leaders and managers in settings to help you prepare, further courses will be offered next year aimed at practitioners.)

PREPARING FOR INSPECTION

As the time for Ofsted to resume full inspections draws closer, this course will support you in preparing yourself and

your team for inspection. This course will explore:

• successful learning walks

• preparing staff and building their confidence

• evaluating your setting

• safeguarding considerations

ELINOR GOLDSCHMIED, TREASURE BASKETS, HEURISTIC PLAY AND YOU

This course will explore:

• The work of Goldschmied and Jackson, focusing on work with children under three.

• The effective and appropriate provision of both treasure baskets and heuristic play linking to their theories.
